What is GRiT?

The GRiT (Girls Riding Together) program is a NICA national initiative aimed at increasing the overall participation rate of more female student-athletes and female coaches in NICA. The Maryland Interscholastic Cycling League saw huge participation numbers in its first year of existence,

bUT, GIRLS MADE UP ONLY 18.4% OF OUR RIDERSHIP.

The Maryland League is committed to increasing this percentage. Our GRiT coordinator and a team of women coaches make up a GRiT committee that will be working to increase female participation through numerous outreach events throughout the state.

We all know that girls are stronger when we support each other and lift each other up.  Setting time aside for “girls only” allows us get to know each other and strengthen our mountain biking community.

Please feel free to contact our GRiT coordinator, Laura Gray, if you have any questions regarding GRiT or how to get involved.

We are in search of...

To help make our remaining events a success, we are in need of donations. If you have any of the following in your house that you would like to donate to our cause, we would greatly appreciate it.

  • Fingernail polish

  • Beads

  • Embroidery floss

  • Safety pins

  • Fun fabric scraps

  • Buttons

Additionally, we would love to host a clothing swap at the final race of the season. If you have any gently used bike appropriate clothing that you no longer wear or is too big or too small, we would love to have it!

All donations can be taken to the GRiT tent on race weekends. Thank you in advance!
